Technology Center
The goal of the Technology Center is to provide assistance and information to those who are visually impaired and who wish to use technology to meet their needs at school, at work or at home.
A collection of technology for the blind and visually impaired is maintained. This includes devices such as closed circuit television systems for enlarging print; talking calculators; computers with large print, braille or synthetic speech output; and computerized reading machines for the blind.
Services offered by the Technology Center include the following:
- Technology is demonstrated for consumers and professionals at the School for the Blind. Hardware and software demonstrations are also be conducted at other sites.
- Current vendor information along with demonstration cassettes and demo disks are on file. Information regarding equipment being utilized in the state is available.
- Hardware and software from APH are loaned to eligible students. Other hardware or software is, when available, loaned to qualified consumers for a specified amount of time.
- Computer training is offered to professionals and to persons with a visual impairment. Training may include workshops, set-up and installation of equipment, and individualized training at either the School for the Blind or the local setting.
